I was originally scheduled to be a speaker at a batik promotion + social event today. But it was cancelled. Here's the story...<\/p>\n
About 2 weeks ago two young \"batik Blitar ambassadors\" came to De Karanganjar to propose sponsorship for the event. Deal, we can help.<\/p>\n
Then I asked them: \"Does Blitar already have a signature batik?\"<\/p>\n
They mentioned one brand of batik. Then I asked them to enter the Noegroho Museum. 10 minutes later they came back and mentioned the name \"Batik Tutur\". Finally I explained the history of Batik Tutur, and how complicated the struggle was to 'bring back' the batik from the Netherlands to Blitar.<\/p>\n
A few days later I was informed that I was asked to be a Batik Tutur speaker at the event. I asked if it would be okay if I brought Batik Tutur while there was a particular batik that was being highlighted there? They said no problem. Okay, deal.<\/p>\n
When I was already preparing Batik Tutur to be exhibited tomorrow, I got another call from the committee apologising for having to cancel my attendance. Of course, the reason was as subtle as possible, but I insisted on the real reason.<\/p>\n
In essence, there were parties who objected to Batik Tutur, which is \"batik kabupaten\", being discussed at the event.<\/p>\n
From a thematic, business, and administrative perspective, I can understand their objections.<\/p>\n
But alas, if they had known that the Batik Tutur called \"Batik Afkomstig Uit Blitar\" documented in 1902 was geographically actually in the area of \"Blitar city\", but administratively belonged to \"Blitar district\".<\/p>\n
Because in that year the city of Blitar did not yet exist, it was only in 1906 that the city of Blitar was established. So administratively the entire Blitar area at that time was under the Regency.<\/p>\n
The committee apologised to me and I replied that I was fine, there was no pay for being a speaker anyway.<\/p>\n
This is just a lesson for the sons and daughters of Batik, based on my 10 years of experience leading DKKB, sometimes good intentions are hampered by trivial administrative matters like this. Not to mention the egocentric matter.<\/p>\n

Ditulis pada 15 April 2023 Oleh : Wima Brahmantya Sedianya hari ini saya dijadwalkan jadi pembicara di suatu acara promosi batik + bakti sosial. Tapi batal. Begini ceritanya .. Sekitar 2 minggu lalu dua pemuda “duta batik Blitar” datang ke De Karanganjar mengajukan sponsorship untuk acara tsb. Deal, kita bisa bantu. Lalu saya tanya ke mereka : “Apakah Blitar sudah punya batik khas?” Mereka menyebut satu merk batik. Kemudian saya minta mereka masuk ke Museum Noegroho. 10 menit kemudian mereka kembali dan menyebut nama “Batik Tutur”. Akhirnya saya jelaskan sejarah Batik Tutur, dan betapa rumit perjuangannya ‘membawa pulang’ batik tsb dari Belanda ke Blitar. Beberapa hari kemudian saya dikabari bahwa saya diminta jadi pembicara Batik Tutur di acara tsb. Saya sempat nanya apa ga masalah jika saya membawa Batik Tutur sementara ada batik tertentu yang sedang diangkat di situ? Mereka jawab tidak masalah. Oke deal. Ketika di sini sudah mempersiapkan Batik Tutur untuk dipamerkan besok, saya ditelpon lagi oleh panitia yang meminta maaf karena harus membatalkan kehadiran saya. Tentu saja dengan alasan sehalus mungkin, tapi saya desak alasan sebenarnya apa. Intinya, ada pihak-pihak yang keberatan kalau Batik Tutur yang merupakan “batik kabupaten” ikut dibicarakan di acara tsb. Dari sisi tematik, bisnis, dan administratif saya bisa memahami keberatan mereka. Tapi sayang, seandainya mereka tahu bahwa Batik Tutur yang disebut “Batik Afkomstig Uit Blitar” yang didokumentasikan tahun 1902 tsb secara geografis sebenarnya berada di wilayah “kota Blitar”, hanya saja secara administratif milik “Kabupaten Blitar”. Karena pada tahun itu kota Blitar memang belum ada, baru 1906 kota Blitar didirikan. Jadi secara administratif seluruh wilayah Blitar pada saat itu berada di bawah Kabupaten. Panitia tsb meminta maaf kepada saya dan saya jawab bahwa saya gapapa, toh juga jadi pembicara ga ada bayarannya. Cuma ini sebagai pembelajaran bagi Putra-Putri Batik tsb, berdasarkan pengalaman saya 10 tahun memimpin DKKB, terkadang niat baik itu terbentur oleh hal-hal sepele yang bersifat administratif seperti ini. Belum lagi soal egosentris.
