Each one offers a different experience, from celebrating the coffee harvest and sharing a message of peace to giving young people and communities a space to express themselves.
Manten Kopi
When Coffee Becomes a Celebration
As the coffee harvest approaches, the plantation comes alive with a tradition that turns coffee into something more than a crop. Manten Kopi, or the Coffee Marriage Ceremony, is one of Blitar’s distinctive traditions celebrated at De Karanganjar.
Selected coffee cherries, known as kopi lanang and kopi wadon, are symbolically brought together as bride and groom. The ceremony is accompanied by prayers, a procession, traditional performances, and the participation of the local community, creating a celebration that brings people together around the harvest.
At its heart, Manten Kopi is an expression of gratitude for the season that has passed and a hope for abundance in the season ahead. It is also a reminder that coffee at De Karanganjar is connected not only to the land, but to the culture and people who have cared for it.
Kopi Perdamaian Karanganjar
One Cup, One Message of Peace
What happens when a cup of coffee becomes a meeting point for people from different backgrounds? At De Karanganjar, coffee becomes the starting point for Kopi Perdamaian Karanganjar, a celebration of art, culture, diversity, and peace.
The event brings together artists from Blitar, across Indonesia, and from other parts of the world. Performances and cultural activities create a shared space where different traditions and creative expressions can meet.
At the heart of the celebration is a simple ritual: sharing a cup of De Karanganjar coffee, followed by a collective pledge for peace and respect. More than a coffee festival, Kopi Perdamaian reflects the belief that a shared table can create space for conversation, friendship, and understanding.
Djamasan Poesaka
Honouring the Heritage of the Ancestors
Some of De Karanganjar’s stories are preserved not only in its buildings, but in the heirlooms kept within them. Once a year, during the month of Suro, De Karanganjar holds Djamasan Poesaka, a traditional Javanese ritual to care for and honour these ancestral treasures.
The ritual includes the careful cleaning of heirlooms such as the Gong Mbah Gimbal, the keris associated with General Sudirman, and the Cokromanggilingan spear, along with several other kerises preserved at the Noegroho Museum. Through Djamasan Poesaka, these objects remain part of a living tradition, connecting the heritage of De Karanganjar Koffieplantage with the generations who continue to care for it.
DeKa Voice
A Stage for Young Voices
Not every story at De Karanganjar is told through history. Some are sung. DeKa Voice brings young singers into the spotlight through a singing competition held among the trees and historic surroundings of the plantation.
The event gives aspiring performers an opportunity to share their voices, build confidence, and experience performing before an audience. Students from local schools have taken part, turning the plantation into a lively stage where young talent can be heard and celebrated.
For the participants, DeKa Voice is more than a competition. It is a chance to step forward, discover their potential, and turn their voices into part of the story of De Karanganjar.
DeKa Bisa
Celebrating Ability Through Creativity
Every child has something to express, create, and share. DeKa Bisa gives children with disabilities a space to bring their talents into the spotlight and celebrate what they can do.
Held in collaboration with special schools in Blitar, the event features a variety of performances, from traditional dance and pantomime to music, karaoke, fashion, and poetry. Their creativity is also showcased through handmade works, including crafts, miniatures, and crochet.
More than a celebration, DeKa Bisa creates a space where children can perform, create, and be appreciated for their abilities. At De Karanganjar, the event becomes another way for heritage to live through the people and communities who continue to give the place meaning.
Independence Day Celebrations
Celebrating Together
Every August, the spirit of Indonesia’s Independence Day brings another kind of energy to De Karanganjar.
The celebration becomes a moment for people within and around the plantation to come together, share in the festive atmosphere, and celebrate the spirit of independence through community.
Amid the historic buildings, coffee trees, and everyday life of the estate, Independence Day becomes a reminder that heritage is not only about looking back. It is also about the people who continue to give a place its life and meaning.
