Gestapu, which stands for the Thirtieth September Movement, is a historical event that always raises high sensitivity when discussed, especially among the generation that witnessed the dark period. Occurring on 30 September 1965 in Indonesia, Gestapu is a dark story that has had a profound impact on the nation's history.
It involved a series of tragic and controversial actions that led to political upheaval and various forms of violence that claimed many lives. Because of its sensitivity, it is important to understand the Gestapu events carefully, and to ensure that discussions appreciate the complexity of the history and its impact on society today.
Knowledge of Gestapu is crucial for the current generation, especially Generation Z, as it has profound implications for Indonesian identity and nationhood. In this regard, De Karanganjar Koffieplantage plays an important role in building a strong leadership foundation among Indonesia's next generation through nationality discussions.
The activity had a theme about the opinions and perspectives of generation z regarding the sensitivity of the Gestapu event. The activity was held on Wednesday, 27 September 2023 which took place in the Green House area, De Karanganjar Koffieplantage and was attended by student representatives throughout Greater Blitar such as from UNU Blitar, UNIPA, and UNISBA.
The activity began with an opening from Wima Brahmantya, as the CEO of De Karanganjar Koffieplantage as well as the moderator in the national discussion activity. He gave several introductions related to the Gestapu event, especially events that occurred in the Blitar area.
According to stories from the elders of Modangan village, at that time Blitar was one of the areas with the most PKI followers. So that anyone who still has anything to do with the PKI will be executed.
Karanganjar Coffee Plantation is one of them, a place for mass burial of victims with separated heads. So that it also became one of the events that was quite dark and taboo to talk about at that time.
Then from the gen-z perspective there are several opinions that say that the sensitivity of the Gestapu event has become a history that is no longer taboo to discuss. But some opinions also say that the Gestapu events are still sensitive to be discussed because they are related to political patterns.
This was conveyed by Arif Maulana, a student at UNU Blitar, who said that the Gestapu incident originated from political interests, which until now the political patterns during the old order and now are not much different, only in terms of technical implementation. If at that time those killed were political opponents, then in the current era those killed are the characters of political opponents.
During the discussion, the discussion was also inseparable from the figure or mastermind who was behind the dark event. Of course, many versions and speculations have emerged from various sources, ranging from the Army (AD) to President Soekarno himself.
However, history is history. We should always remember that addressing Gestapu requires a wise and understanding approach. Taking care of our hearts and minds is the first step to understanding the complexity of this history. In addition, strengthening historical literacy will help us form a more informed perspective and ensure that this history is not repeated.
Let's make knowledge about Gestapu a foundation to build a stronger identity and nationality for Indonesia's next generation. Discussions like this are a positive step towards a deeper understanding and respect for our nation's history.
Hopefully, this discussion will be the first milestone for Generation Z in understanding and absorbing the meaning of Gestapu and our nation's history. With in-depth knowledge, Generation Z will be able to bring positive changes and build a better future for Indonesia.
Of course, this journey would not have been realised without the contribution of all parties. De Karanganjar Koffieplantage will always be committed to continuing to be a forum for discussion and historical reflection, as a concrete step in shaping critical thinking and solid literacy for the younger generation.
