Weekdays are not as busy as weekends. In fact, it tends to be quiet. When there aren't many people at the cafe, I sometimes take the opportunity to learn a foreign language from the interns who work as a hostess at OG Cafe.

Like this afternoon, I learnt Spanish from an Argentinian duo: Barbara & Mathias.

It's one of my favourite languages and I'm not a stranger to it, because I've been watching Telenovelas since I was a kid: _"Maria Mercedes pa' servirle a usted..."_ (whoever is singing along?) )

Unfortunately, I have never seriously learnt this language, until today when I had the opportunity.

Argentina - the land of super dribblers like Maradona & Messi, like other Latin American countries, uses Spanish as its national language.

The difference is in the accent. Argentinians have a unique accent with the "sshyh" sound, which distinguishes them from other Spanish-speaking people.

Suppose:

"What's your name?" in Spanish would be "como te llamas (pronounced: yyamas)", but in an Argentinian accent it would be: "como te shyamas?"

"Tortilla" pronounced "Tortiyya" becomes "Tortishya".

"Villareal" pronounced "Viyyareal" becomes "Vishyareal".

"Mallorca" pronounced "Mayyorka" becomes "Mashyorka".

So that's a glimpse of info about Spanish ... eh Argentina.

Fortunately, the word for "bullet" in Spanish is "bala", not "bullet" like in English.

If "bullet" is read as "busyet"...
